The Climate Change Crisis: A Review of Its Causes and Possible Responses

Anthropogenic climate change (ACC) has evolved into a set of crises due to society’s deep economic dependency on fossil fuels. These multiple have been well documented and span diverse ecological, human health settings. Given the scale breadth CC impacts, expert labeling issues gradually changed from somewhat benign sounding “global warming” more frightening description “climate emergency”. Notwithstanding calls for transformative societal change, serious attempts confront ACC hampered by decades government policy inaction, various scientific debates, political conservatism denial public ignorance or apathy. Meanwhile, atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations increased inexorably show no sign plateauing. The impacts are becoming evident sooner than expected, projections future planet’s ecosystems population which depends them dire. Proposals geoengineer currently being hotly debated within community but may prove be last resort if unmitigated warming become even severe.
